How do we request or put a hold on a puppy?
In order to hold a puppy, you will need to complete a purchase agreement and put down a deposit. The deposit amount is $900.00.
When can we bring our new puppy home?
Puppies are able to go home at 8 weeks old.
Where can we pick up our puppy?
Puppies are available for pick up in Chesterfield County or at the new owner’s preferred airport.
Will our puppy be used to being with humans? Will it bond with its new owners?
Yes. A puppy’s social and pack skills start developing at 5 weeks. At this time, it is important for them to have exposure to other puppies AND to humans. To aid this process, Jahraus-K9 makes sure puppies are handled several times each day. This interaction with humans is essential because, ultimately, the puppies will belong to a human pack.
Is puppy training available?
New owners can elect to have puppy training done by Jahraus-K9. The training program lasts for 4 weeks after the initial 7 or 8 weeks. Puppies are taught 5 basic commands: come when called, sit, down, begins to stay and walking on a lead. Verbal and hand commands are taught for come, sit, down and stay.
Training costs begin at $500.00
How do we register our new puppy? What are the benefits of registering the puppy?
Jahraus-K9 will provide new owners with an American Kennel Club (AKC) registration application. The application should be submitted as soon as possible after receiving the puppy. The AKC will then send the new owners an information packet containing useful tips and recommendations, including information about local AKC events, training sessions and more.
What is some advice for the puppy’s first day at its new home?
Puppies should be allowed to have lots of time outside. A crate should already be prepared, so that crate training can start immediately. At bedtime, the puppy needs about 1 hour to calm down; then he or she will sleep soundly through the night.
